well mike, if its wet wood or not fully cured, it could be part of the problem. I use more oak than anything, but also use maple, apple, and cherry during the smoke to help with added flavors.

The first pic Of my Lang is in the summer.

Here it is on sunday morning!

Kinda depressing aint it. You Florida guys sure are lucky!

        Learned a trick

Hi Dan, Are you using the propane as an assist or just a log starter. I tried a new pan for charcoal a few weeks ago, It was just the charcoal pan from a ECB which I drilled a bunch of holes in, but obviously it wasn't enough holes because I couldnt get the temp up past 150. I blamed the outside temp on that, and fired up the propane only to find out that those little bees clogged up the port with mud which created soot. So I shut off the gas and dumped the pan in the fire box and the temp climbed up quick. But I learned this pan could come in handy in the future when I want a colder smoke temp.

I use it to start my firestarter(lil wood/sawdust/wax blocks) that sits under my coal chimney. But I leave the burner out and around the smoker most of the day, just in case I snooze off or need to restart something.

Gotta love the Lang. That crabapple gonna be good to as well as the cherry and oak.
Hang in and the grass will soon be green again.
