  • Best Burgers?..... Best Toppings?.... I wanna know!

Just got an email from a cooking website discussing burgers, how to make them Great & the wide range of toppings that have become all the rage. Just thought I would throw this out for discussion.......

I'm typically pretty straightforward on mine..... Grilled & topped with melted cheese, although sometimes (especially when the weather is bad ) I prefer the taste of a greasy fried burger & will get out the Cast Iron & let 'er rip.....

One of the neat things we have done in the past when entertaining with friends or for parties is to include every kind of condiment that you could think of (Spicy Mayo, "GOOP", Hot & Sweet Mustard, Jalapeno Relish, etc)..... Along with other pile on items like Bacon (of course)..... Onions (fresh & grilled)..... Tomatoes..... Pickles.....All different kinds of Cheeses..... Lettuce..... Avacado..... Pineapple..... Cream Cheese...... Sauted Mushrooms..... Onion Rings..... etc. And let the guests build their own..... Good quality fresh sturdy buns are a must, because they tend to get stacked pretty high.....

What do you all like to include on your burgers?.....

i am a mushroom and swiss fan

this is the recipie i like best, is a copycat recipie for Hardees mushroom and swiss burgers from allrecipie.com.

          Ingredients:

          1 (10 1/2 ounce) cans Campbell's Golden Mushroom soup
1 (4 1/2 ounce) cans Green Giant sliced mushrooms
          1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
4 slices processed swiss cheese (no holes)
          4 (1/4 lb) hamburger patty
          1/2 teaspoon Accent seasoning
          1/2 teaspoon Lawry's Seasoned Salt
          1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
          Change Measurements: US | Metric

          Directions:

          Prep Time: 5 mins

          Total Time: 25 mins

1 Mix the first three ingredients together, put on low heat and let simmer.

2 Mix the Accent, Lawry's and pepper together and put in a shaker.

3 Season the patties with this and fry or grill until done-dont press on the patties-you must resist this impulse!

4 Put patty onto a bun, then the swiss, then the sauce and you're done.

Blue cheese stuffed boygas with sauteed onions, mushrooms on a onion bun
Or envelope a pat of home made herb butter into the boyga topped with chilis, cheese and cherry chipotle sauce or just a good chili.

I usually just like a simple bacon cheeseburger with a little ketchup and mustard. Sometimes I'll add a little lettuce, tomato and onion. I HAVE to have the Sara Lee buns with my burgers though. But not the small hamburger buns...the larger "Bakery Buns". Those are awesome!!

Here are 50 burger ideas from the Food Network if anyone cares to see.

                Big & Littles, Chicago

egg, lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup: $4.50

Sobelmans, Milwaukee, WI. cant remember the $:

                cheese, bacon, jalapenos, etc.:

                bloody maria:

                Graze, Madison, WI.

                quail egg cheeseburger: $9

                Rootbeer Stand, Utica, IL

bacon double cheeseburger less than $4:

I could certainly eat any of those! There's not a real good burger place around Lexington, although a new place recently opened on campus. I haven't had time to get there yet, but I love the name and their logo, and can't wait to see their burgers.

                        Don't eat them that often.
Made a batch month or so back so we've been having them more on home made buns.

I generally just use mayo and fried onions - but I do love the idea of an egg, that I'll have to try.

I think if you throw on too much you lose the flavour of the burger. Although I guess that depends on the size of the burger lol

When we lived in New Zealand there was a place that served them with a fried egg and a slice of red beet. I thought it was pretty tasty. It grossed Ann out -- she can't stand beets.

I know I'd need a pretty big bun, but if I was building one I'd go for mayo, mustard, pepper jack, jalapenos, sliced red onion, lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, and bacon.

I usually saute a bunch of onion, garlic and a can of diced ortegas. Mix 50/50 ground pork/beef add bread crumbs eggs whorsey spices parm etc, you know, the meatloaf thing in a patty.
For the topping, chop up a bunch of bacon and render it down to nice crumbles. Just before the burgers are done, pile on the rendered bacon and top with a THICK slice of cheddar. It kinda melds with the bacon so you get a nice easy bite of bacon n cheese in every bite.
                            That's my signature burger.
