  • So, you think you know peppers huh?

Ok pepper heads, here's the deal. Late last Fall, I purchased the seeds for this years garden. This particular seed pack came from Burpee's. It was labeled as Great Stuffed Hybrid. Basically a LARGE bell pepper.

Here is what came up. I did not order anything remotely close to this. Kinda looks like a tobasco pepper to me but I don't know. What do you think it is?
They are approx 1 1/2" long, 5/16-3/8th diameter. Bit into one and they have a BITE!!!

And yes, those are weeds in my garden. My harvest in this area is done so I had not weeded anymore

Definetly grows toward sun like a tabasco etc.....Definetly not the great stuffed hybrid in my catalog...The peppers i grow like that Burpee doesnt sell....

Let burpee know about this todd....I have dealt with them for 30 years and never had that happen....I do know they import seeds as some packs say germany etc....Looks like a cross of some sort..The cross polination is in the seed though...I ran out of cayene last year and planted some from dehydrated peppers and 2 of 8 of em came out crossed....

I thought maybe they were Serrano's but they are half the size of any Serrano's I've ever seen in the store.

I'm gonna let them keep going, dig them up and transplant them to large pots and keep in the house till next Spring and plant again. See what happens.

Depends on whether or not you like the taste. Probably be great to dry em and use them as a seasoning. If you like the heat they'd be great in some chili or stir fry. Also good for spicing up some pickles if you do any canning.

Mmmm, yeah one or 2 in some pickles would be a good idea. I already canned 30 quarts of pickles this year, maybe I'll dry them out make some spicy sausage

I went out and picked one. The boy and I just took a very very small nibble off the end. The pain is tremendous
The burn was searing, instant and lasting. I am salivating like a rabid dog.

I have eaten the salsa from NM university, the ghost chile salsa and that has nothing on this. Makes Habs looks like skittles.
