Long weekend, but here's the skinny....LineTrash and wife stopped in to chat sunday and that was very nice...:thumb:

Saturday was a KCBS rule grilling comp...Burgers,pizza,dessert....

Our burgers got DQ(first ever DQ) as our atomic clock was 3 minutes slow...That will never happen again, but other clock was broken....

Finished 12th out of 21 with the DQ(no points)...Definite top 5 without DQ,but one team did have a 180 in desserts and recieved a KCBS pin....

Finished 10th in a strong field..

Did not think to put elevation(800-1000) feet at contest into play...It messed with our smoker untill we adjusted...Glad this happened...The JACK is also above sea level....

Sister has always had balls(figuratively)and chose to try some different things. She treated this as a warm up for the 3 big comps coming up and after Dover last month i am comfortable again with the swing of things having missed alot of the comps this year......I think the 2 comps in 2 days was taxing, but no excuse(good learning experience)

I think we felt the overall product was decent...Suprised at finish on some meats and disappointed in others....

Probably the prettiest place i have ever been to at a comp...For a first year comp it has big potential....

I need a new camera..Shutter was sticking...Heres what pics came out...

Raystown lake...A damn creates 25 miles of this...Just a great fishing, camping and hunting area....

Congratulations Johnny!...... What do the elevations do to the smokers? Less heat? More heat?

Congratulations Johnny!...... What do the elevations do to the smokers? Less heat? More heat?

Less oxygen then sea level...The way smoker is set up it takes more fuel or less draft etc. in smoker to maintain desired temps consistently. Also extremely humid in mornings/late evenings in this area..We did not think about this, but should have known with the reaction the fresh pizza crusts were giving us for pizza comp...

KCBS pizza? Tenderness? Heh! Well, shit happens... as long as it was fun- and looks like it was :{)

They basicaly treated the burger and pizza as a normal "anything Butt" deal as far as scores...Very subjective, but same rules for everybody...The desserts were judges same as that always is in a KCBS deal...I believe we were 4th in that....

Thanks Lee and everybody...It's usually a no-no to try some different things at a comp, but sis,bil didnt start putting up some wins and such without being outside the box etc...We were close last year at some comps, but they stayed with it and definetly deserve credit.

Should be even more outside box with me doing some whole hog as part of team next year at comps that have that(2-3)..

Congrats on a fine finish, and a great time! Man, what a beautiful setting! :drooling:

So, how did you compensate for the higher elevation? Open the vents a bit more, reset the Guru, or...? Inquiring mimes need to know... :thumb:
