  • Grilled Leeks - Had to try em

Well you know what they say about imitation is hell I'm not sure something like flattery or something like that.

Ableman, your Leeks have stuck in my head. I'd never had them before and they looked to good NOT to give em a go. http://www.smoked-meat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1019

So I picked some up today. The only thing different that I did different was use a red wine vinegar and only because I didn't realize I was out of the balsamic.

My wife was a little interested in them as well so that always helps. I tried a little bite raw, Yup i was gonna like em. maybe a little of a garlic taste not quite sure.

We both liked em well enough, but both thought maybe something different a different cheese maybe ( we both love goat cheese )

These are gonna be something we try again, and maybe play with some other ideas with them.

plated with I guess you'd call it a mini fatty stuffed with a little cheese and a Bratwurst.

Abelman getting points for this idea.

Looks good. I have used leeks in a couple different soups/stews but never as the main item in a side dish. After Abelman's and yours I think I will definately give this a shot. Nice job.

Great job and glad you liked them. They sure surprised me when I did them! I'm sure Red Wine vinegar was a winner as well.

I think you're right about playing around with different cheeses. I think some jalapeno pepper jack would be good as well.....

Hell I didn't expect much and never took a picture of them until I took a bite, LOL.

I've never tried leeks before but you can bet as soon as I can find some they're coming home with me! Good looking smoke. Thanks for the pics.

Bassman, you should be able to get them at King Soopers, no problem. They look like a big scallion/green onion. They kind of have a sweet taste to them as far as onions go. I had used them brfore in a home made clam chowder recipe.

I need to find more to do with them as they are very good and little talked about.

BTW, just started snowing over here again...hope the West slope is doing well. I don't mind the snow, we need the moisture and I fertilized on Friday so it's all good but still cold for April.
