  • What Exactly Is "Porcelainized" Cast Iron?

I've been looking for some cast iron cook grids for my gasser -- Charbroil Masterflame. I found these online.

    http://www.grillparts.com/charbroil/...&category=8000

But what the heck is "porcelainized" cast iron? Is it a thin little rod of cast iron wrapped in porcelain that is not really cast iron at all and not much different than my current porcelain coated cheap ass grates? Or is it something worth buying?

Thanks as always for the input and guidance.

It's the other way around. Heavier cast iron with a thin coat of porcelain on it. Wow, that's a bit pricey, don't ya think? At least you'll know they'll fit proper.

I don't know. I haven't really looked very hard yet.

Just for shits & giggles, you might want to have a look at the Home Depot and Lowes site. You might be able to get those local and save the shipping.

You're probably right. I should just take the measurements of that grill plus the SnP and get cast iron for both of them.
