  • In need of a new scale to weigh cures and spices

    Aloha All,

My DigiWeigh digital pocket scale (purchased from Amazon) died on me this weekend as we were making a batch of sausage. I'd like to replace it with something of better quality. I use the digital scale to weigh out my cures and spices. Can anyone recommend a quality digital scale that shows both ounces and grams and also has a Tare and Backlit function and has a capacity to weigh quantities within 500 or 600 gram range. I would appreciate it greatly if you could also recommend where I'd be able to purchase such a scale.

    Thanks friends

Hey Val. I have been using a Pelouze scale. Model sp5 I got off ebay about 2 years ago. Weights, pounds, ounces and grams. 5 pound max. It's been very good to me and seems to be pretty accurate. They run between 20 and 30 bucks on ebay.

I got one of these. I works okay, but doesn't really allow you to titrate any amount of seasoning, etc. onto the scale. Pretty much weighs what you set on it, then locks that amt. in.http://cgi.ebay.com/35-LB-DIGITAL-SH...#ht_3218wt_932

          Scale

I picked up one at harbor freight.

It has a tare setting and adjusts for grams, ounces, lbs, and has a tare setting.

So far i have only used it for setting my grindings for sausage I tested it with a 5lb weight and it was dead on. My buddy found a old gram balance scale at a garage sale that I'm going to borrow to test the gram accuracy.

I have an older model from Salter and it goes up to 12# and has the tare feature as well
Here is a link to a similar one on Amazon - mine is 6 years old and is still in great condition

This stainless steel salter has worked great. Grams or pounds and ounces. It will show ounces down to 1/8 and maxes out at about 8 pounds. They sell for less than 30 bucks.
