View Full Version : Best Indoor Or Counter Top Appliance ?
Fishawn 01-05-2011, 11:54 AM Any input on what is a good indoor cooker, or appliance for stuff like chicken, pork, beef, etc.... Like the Ronco, etc..... Getting tired of being rained on outside & need option B for indoors.... I know Gunny has that cool old Rotisserie thingy (Farberware?) ..... Anyone else have any ideas?
chefrob 01-05-2011, 11:57 AM save yer $$ and use the oven..........there really isn't a beter device for roasting.
Fishawn 01-05-2011, 12:08 PM I agree Rob..... My application would be in my "Man Cave" away from the main kitchen area..... I'm trying to be self contained down their, so I will never have to leave.... :nana2:
Meat Hunter 01-05-2011, 12:10 PM My buddy has one of them rotisseries, made by DeLonge? Awesome little cooker for what its made for, chickens, roasts and such. And doesn't heat the whole house up.
HawgHeaven 01-05-2011, 12:15 PM We have a small countertop convection oven that does a really nice job... had it for several years now. I forget the brand name right off hand, but it was a K-Mart/Walmart type of purchase, and very reasonable.
HawgHeaven 01-05-2011, 12:19 PM We have this one...

i was just going to post that one..........you will want a convection unit to even out the temps.

I'm with Pop Pop. I love my little countertop oven... it bakes, broils, roast and it even has a rotisserie :thumb: I also really like my George Foreman grill.
aczeller 01-05-2011, 12:39 PM just move the smoker into the kitchen...

 ...... I'm trying to ~STAY AWAY~ from the kitchen, thus the "alternative" cooking unit  ..... Good ideas so far..... We have a big George Forman, but never use it.... I'm thinkin something like what Pop Pop suggested, or a Ronco ?

Well, for less than a $100, I'd give it (Hamilton Beach) a whirl if I were you. Like I said, we've had it for several years and it still works great! :thumb:
aczeller 01-05-2011, 12:55 PM in all seriousness, one of the best kitchen appliances, other than the oven, knives, etc. would be a good-sized crock pot. i have a decent sized one, but even when i go to make a chicken or something, it's still too small. i have seem/smelled/tasted/heard about some damn good 'Q from a crock in the past.
Later,
Andy
Fishawn 01-05-2011, 01:20 PM Yeah, got a regular sized crock pot & a large roaster & the Forman, but really I guess I am thinking in the mode of rotis chicken & ribs maybe?
MichChef 01-05-2011, 01:30 PM Man, how do I choose? Yer talkin to the kitchen gadget king here. I have 5 different crockpots, 6 different sizes of electric roaster ovens, a 3 tiered electric steamer, electric deep fryer, 2 sizes of George Foremans, a GT Express 101, 2 food processors, a blender, a smoothie maker, electric choppers, a KitchenAid mixer, waffle irons, a bread machine, a giant Showtime rotisserie that will do a 24 lb turkey, a FlavorWave oven and a snow cone machine.
I really like the Showtime rotisserie. I've done ribs, beef and pork roasts, rib roasts, chickens, turkeys, burgers, steaks, chops, hot dogs/sausages, fish and kebabs in it and everything comes out perfect. One of my favorites though is a basket of ShakeNBake coated chicken legs to munch on, so crispy and juicy! I've checked out lots of rotisseries, before buying, and I think the Ronco/Popeil Showtime is the best. you can do alot more with them than the smaller or vertical ones.
The FlavorWave oven is really nice too, especially for those days when you forget to take something out of the freezer for dinner. You can cook foods right from frozen in them in the same time or less than it woud take in your stove oven. I make a mean rosemary coated pork roast in it and chickens come out golden brown with crispy skin. Frozen snacks like pizza rolls, fries, chicken fingers, fish sticks & poppers are done in a heartbeat.
And don't forget the snow cone machine. Why? it's great for summer parties, family reunions and picnics. not only do the kids form long lines for them, the adults almost shove the kids aside for snowcones with different flavors of fruit schnapps poured over them.
Fishawn 01-05-2011, 01:37 PM WOW John!..... You are the small kitchen appliance KING! :bounce:
I did not know the Showtime came in a "Giant" model.... That I Like :thumb:... The Nuwave oven looks pretty neat also....:thumb:
SmokinLee 01-05-2011, 01:59 PM I seen the one Phil has at the store. It looked pretty nice. Not much biigger that a microzapper
Gunslinger 01-05-2011, 02:13 PM If you can find one, I love mine and use it a lot. Grill or rotis.

You're probably talking about the "Big Easy" made by Charbroil. The original is operated by propane, so you wouldn't want to use it in your man cave. I think they have a new one that's called a smoker/cooker that appears to be electric.
chefrob 01-05-2011, 08:10 PM ya need to quit messin' 'round and git ya one of these old school jobbies so you can play with fire........

Pandemonium 01-06-2011, 10:44 AM LOL @ Rob
I have a smaller ronco rotis and its great for chickens its too hot for ribs and stuff where you would want to cook at lower heat, maybe the bigger models have a temp control? damn thing needs one.
I have to say my favorite appliance right now is my rice cooker, being creative you can make different stuff in it too, there are rice cooker recipe pages where you can cook other stuff in it to, you need a popcorn maker for the mancave too lol
blues_n_cues 01-06-2011, 12:39 PM LOL @ rob
it was a legitmate question...
personally all i need is a nuke-ro-wave,coffee maker,beer tap, & a quilt on a futon.......gimme a back door,hibachi,dorm fridge,fan, & 56"flat mount sports screen & i'm friggin' set..
not to mention my recording studio sound system....:thumb:
curious aardvark 01-06-2011, 01:26 PM them little halogen thingies they use in costco seem to work.
Take too long whe you're lurking around waiting for samples. but they definitely cook most things.
or just get a cheap electric oven :-)
That way you can grill, fry and bake as well :-)

i was talking about Chefrob pictures he put up, oops
Pandemonium 01-06-2011, 02:50 PM You really cant go wrong with a micro and a decent sized toaster oven to make pizzas and stuff like that
GOT14U 01-06-2011, 03:13 PM A simple convection oven is the best. Once you cook with one you will never go back. And they do make cheaper units for the house that are glass top stoves as well. Not sure how crazy your gonna get but here is a link to the one I have except i have the off brand http://www.lowes.com/pd_299350-46-WFE381LVQ_0__?productId=1243779&Ntt=convection&Ns=p_product_price|0&pl=1¤tURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNs%3Dp_product_price%7C0% 26Ntt%3Dconvection%26page%3D2

Fishawn 01-06-2011, 06:20 PM You guys are killing me!!!! LMAO... I have a microwave and small fridge and a recessed area for a large fridge... I'm thinking either a Ronco or the Pop-Pop type countertop oven/rotisserie..... I will take some pics and you guys can guide me along???

HawgHeaven 01-07-2011, 07:30 AM I have been to Rob's house and he still has this poster

curious aardvark 01-07-2011, 07:30 AM personally I'd probably go with an all in one microwave and an inductance hotplate.
'cos at some point you're going to want to make a bacon sandwich :-)

Uncle-Honky 01-07-2011, 07:41 AM I have the Ronco Showtime and love it. It stores away without too much hassle too.
