View Full Version : Hot drinks that aren't coffee, tea or mulled wine, not necessarily alcoholic...
curious aardvark 01-12-2011, 06:02 AM I quite like hot drinks but sometimes you've just had enough coffee and I don't drink tea.
This one's an alternative to mulled wine.
Apple juice & pimms.
add apple juice to a mug and top up with pimms (1/4 - 1/5 of the mug)
Microwave for a minute or two until it's hot but not boiling.
Drink :-)
Hot lime.
Get a GOOD lime cordial (the one I use is 60% lime juice) add to mug and pour on very hot water. If you want add some vodka.
This one's also good if you've got a cold :thumb:
So what else is there ?
HawgHeaven 01-12-2011, 06:06 AM CA, what is pimms? :noidea:
curious aardvark 01-12-2011, 06:10 AM Ah, I was wondering about that.
Pimms (http://www.anyoneforpimms.com/)
basically it's an alcoholic mix of spices and herbs. usually used for a summer cocktail with pimms and lots of fruit. Works out around 25% alcohol
There's probably something similiar you could use in the states.
maybe vanilla vodka and apple juice, sounds like it would work :thumb:
rbranstner 01-12-2011, 09:35 AM My mom has a mix of tang and some other spices/sugars and what not that we call Russian Tea and I love that stuff. Doesn't taste like tea. I drink tea every day as I can't stand coffee unless there is plenty of cream and sugar and then I get a stomach ache from it.
I found this on line and I would guess its pretty close to the recipe we have.
1 cup instant tea
2 cups Tang
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 pkg. Wylers lemonade mix
1 1/2 cups sugar (or less)
This would make a small jar full then you just use a couple spoon fulls to your liking and add to hot water and stir.
Fishawn 01-12-2011, 09:40 AM Was womndering about the Pimms also....can't think of anything other than cocoa with peppermint schnaaps and hot water and beef boulion, but that's no fun, but good if you're cold.

lmao - read that as cocoa, pepermint schnapps, beef boullion and hot water - and thought 'lose the boullion'.
But it's actually two seperate drinks :whistle:

Me too... when I got to the beef boulion, there was a high WTF factor! :eek:
aczeller 01-13-2011, 12:23 PM personally, i just make my hot coco with everclear... no water... just moonshine. if i'm feeling as though i need to "cut back" i'll opt for with some 151 or Barton's Vodka. heat it up to about 120, add the coco, and any ailment, cold, or otherwise negative disposition you may have in life at that particular moment is no longer existant. lol.
please note that I used extreme sarcasm. I don't think i could ever down a glass of hot vodka and chocolate powder...

Time2Eat 01-13-2011, 04:01 PM Here are a couple I like.
Hot Toddy
* 1 teaspoon honey
* 2 fluid ounces boiling water
* 1 1/2 fluid ounces whiskey
* 3 whole cloves
* 1 cinnamon stick
* 1 slice lemon
* 1 pinch ground nutmeg
Directions
1. Pour the honey, boiling water, and whiskey into a mug. Spice it with the cloves and cinnamon, and put in the slice of lemon. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes so the flavors can mingle, then sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg before serving.
Hot Buttered Rum
* 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
* 1 (16 ounce) package confectioners' sugar, sifted
* 1 pound light brown sugar, packed
* 1 quart vanilla ice cream, softened
Directions
1. In a large bowl cream the butter and the sugars together until smooth. Add the softened ice cream and mix until a creamy consistency is obtained. Transfer this to a freezer container with a tight fitting lid. Place in the freezer for up to 1 month.
2. To Serve: Place a heaping 2 tablespoons of the frozen mix in a highball glass or coffee mug. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons dark rum. Pour over the mix 6 ounces of boiling water and stir until the mixture is melted. Sprinkle top with cinnamon or nutmeg and serve forth!
Man it's been a loooong time since I've had a Hot Buttered Rum and now I really want one!

Bull Shot;
3 oz vodka
4 oz cold beef bullion
Salt and pepper.
Ice
shaken and strained.
Typically an alternative to a bloody mary for brunch.
