  • Rotisserie thermometers

Ok, this one has been perplexing me for quite some time. Don't know if there is a solution or not, but would like some input.

We are building a large rotisserie cooker this winter and I would like to be able to run remote thermometers. But the problem is, how? How to do this without wrapping the wires around everything.

One solution I've come up with is to put the transmitter into some sort of heat-proof enclosure and place it on the same basket as the meat.

    Any suggestions welcomed.

    thanks.

The electrical engineer in me wonders about using a thermopile for power :{)

The mechanical says a slip-ring/commutator setup.

The backyard hack... maybe a wireless can survive 300°? Hmmm

The practical guy... use a thermapen and be quick about it hehe!

The first two, are way beyond me. I'm thinking about an oven mit + homemade ice pack + transmitter. That's more my speed.

I have thought about sacrificing a transmitter for testing purposes, but don't really want to.

Thermapen is a good idea. That is probably where I'll end up if my experiment doesn't work.

Make your spit a little longer than your heat source is wide and tie off your wire to the spit and strap the transmitter to the end and let er spin. Radio waves don't care which end is up

Then consider dry ice instead of frozen water, for the obvious reasons.

Kinda like the Maverick ET75? http://www.maverickhousewares.com/et75.htm

I looked at that, but the shaft of the rotisserie is running on a sealed bearing, so nowhere to run the wire to get out of the chamber.

Can we still use the thermopile for power? Huh? HUH?

I'm trying, but doesn't always work out that way.

Sometimes I tend to overthink things.

If your talking rotating racks, like the Ribolator, I got no idea.

If you're using a spit, this should work.

You really want to use that thermopile, don't you?

                        I looked at those.
Unfortuntely, they are 500 gallon tanks with six baskets. No spit.

                            Thanks for the link.

I have seen some leave in therms like that at Home Depot, but they don't have crap for increments.

                            These are way better.

                            Definately an option.

                            Thanks.
