  • I am NOT happy!!

Okay folks... I did a big ol' smoke yesterday... a Pig Newton Fatty, 2 yardbirds, and a brisket. I took around 20 to 24 pix of everything, including a step-by-step of the fatty assembly. I went to download the pix from my camera, and just about every one of them is corrupt. I'm using a Nikon D70s, which uses a Compact Flash (CF) card. Me thinks the card went out to lunch, and ate my pix!!

Sooo, I am off to the camera place to see if it's my camera, or my card. Hopefully, they can extract the pix for me...

    DANG!!

    Stay tuned...

I use a D70 as well. I would copy the corrupt files to the hard drive to see if they can be recovered later. Once backed up format the card.. I know I have had problems before taking pictures in cold temps with my camera.

Most importantly how was the food especially the figs.

As Richtee mentioned there is some software out there to retrieve deleted files off of a memory card, but I am not sure about corrupt files??

I know this from experience as I accidentally deleted all the pics on my CF card It was Marty's sons senior year at State Wrestling - there was over 2000 pics over 3 days worth on that card. I was sick about it for days and starting doing research on ways to retrieve them. I can't believe there is actually a program out there for that. Just goes to show you nothing is really deleted... ever!!

Not true... as soon as you start writing over the "deleted" data... toast!

Most "erase" procedures just remove directory or "location" info, allowing the system to write over them as there's "nothing" there.

Okay... here's the scenario: I go to The Camera Shop in Newark. The counter guy fires up the camera and on the very first attempt at a shot, it comes up with an error. We stick in a new CF card... WHAMMO! All is good. He checked the error code in a database he had, it was a memory card error... Whew, it ain't the camera!

I get home and go looking for recovery programs (free of course... they wanted $35.00 to do it...). BINGO!! I found "MiniTool Power Data Recovery 6.0 Free Version" on cnet, and it was highly rated by its over 200k users. I installed it, plugged in the "bad" CF card, and started downloading... almost 600 files!! There were only around 20 on there I thought... not only were my files there, butt I retrieved files from the previous owner of the camera!! Unfortunately, the corrupted files were truly corrupt, and were not usable. Fortunately, I got a great tour of Chile (I think...)!!

Sooo, I'll start another thread on the abbreviated Sunday smoke...

                            HawgHeaven,

Sounds like the same tool I used - I recovered pics on there that I had taken over a yr ago and wrote over. It is crazy how that stuff works.
