  • Maple Score

Number 2 daughter's current beau asked if I was interested in a few pieces of maple (forgive him he's young). What he dropped off blew me away. It has been in the garage drying since last September .....

This is what's left, I split the same amount already ....

Here is some of the split wood ....

And finally, had to have a test burn ....

Funny..never tried Maple and it's all over the place here. I'll have to toss some in and give it a go. How would you describe the flavor? Like oak?

That is a nice score. Maple is a second place to cherry to me.

Maple gives a much lighter smoke than Oak. More like a fruit wood taste. I let the Norway maples in my yard get to about 5" diameter then cut 1 or two down a year. They grow fast so there is a steady supply. Try it, you'll like it.

smells JUST like maple bacon when you fry it.............its replaced cherry as my fav. great flavor but much lighter than you will get with a oak or a hickory

Cool! I'll have to give it a try. It all over the place around my yard. We cut up a few last week, neighbor has a tons of it in the wood pile I gave him last year. Spent most of my time looking for Cherry and Apple, never thought to use it...lol.

Hmmmmm, wonder ifin that boy is upta sumtin? Better keep an eye on him, an a firm grip!

Get lots a maple, that an apple be most a what I use, least till my load a mesquite gets here in may!

Had a hickory smoked butt at a competitors place, smoke was lot stronger which I knew, (an I miss!) but most everbody round here likes the maple better, so, maple it is most a the time! Gonna do some ribs an them puppies gonna be over the hickory!

Ya got a nice stack goin there!

Way Cool! I never thought of smoking with maple, I just like to use it for cooking over campfires on. Just before I planted my garden this year, I cut down 21 maples that were starting to shade the back end of my garden. I should be settin' pretty for smokin' wood for a long time to come.
