  • Warming oven

Working on the smoker build tweeks. Have a question on warming ovens that are built above the firebox.

How are these made? I've not seen one in person to examine it. I know they just use the heat from the firebox, but I am unsure on how to design it for temp control in the oven.

build a box on top of the firebox with rack braces and everything. then, just ad an intake and exhaust. temp control should work the same way as an electric smoker, or opposite of a stick burner... close the vents to increase temp, open them to decrease temps.

      That seems simple enough.

I don't have to worry about excessive heat at the bottom of the oven? What about a water pan or something for a heat diffuser?

that would be beneficial. or at lest an air gap... something to help dissipate and insulate from the heat. you could also just use some bigger/heavier/thicker plate for the top of the firebox. it'd take longer to heat up from the excessive thermal mass, but it would also take a lot longer to cool down...

Didn't think about an air gap. That would be nice to not have to deal with a water pan. Good idea.
