  • Sunday night diinner

My family (brothers and sisters) usually get together at our Mom and Dad's house every Sunday night for dinner. It was my turn to bring the entree last night. I had a 4 lb pork loin and decided to finally try out my Plowboys Yard Bird rub that I had gotten from Bubba's store. I love the motto "created for chicken but made for pork". (http://www.greatlakesbbqsupply.com)

    Rubbed in Plowboys.

Wrapped in bacon and smoked with hickory.

No finished, plated pictures as this was taken directly from the smoker, wrapped and off to my parent's house which is about 35 minutes out of town....and I forgot my camera. But here it is right before coming off the smoker:

I think both my Mom and Dad enjoyed this one much better than one I previously done and taken there. I've learned that they don't like a lot of smokey taste so with this one I went very light on the hickory. I also got so caught up in the nice weather that I completely forgot about it while I was busy working on my tan in the back yard. When I remember that I had better check on the smoker, it had already reached 170 internal temp...I wanted 160 and was worried that this would be dry, but honestly, it wasn't. It was very tender just not real juicy. And the Plowboys has a wonderful flavor. I was afraid to use a whole lot yesterday, but next time I'll be more generous with it.

Thanks for checking out part of my weekend Q.
    Becky

Nice work! I'm sure the bacon helped ya at 170°...all you who like their loins a little more on the done side should try this. I have taken to pulling them around 145-150...but then again I'm usually not tanning while smoking

Interesting on the rub's "motto"- I feel the same about mine, really. Guess I should try this stuff... Hey Bubba...wanna do a swap?

That's a great looking loin. I'll try the bacon wrap next time and do the lower internal temp and Rich suggested. My first one came out a bit dry. Thanks for the pics.
