  • Slicer question

Hey all... Need some advice for those who may have gone through this before.

I recently acquired an old 10" slicer that had seen heavy usage in a restaurant, then was put away in storage after a VERY quick wipe down.. It took an hour to get it un-crusted and cleaned on the exterior surfaces. Underneath looks like it was caked with fryer grease for 10 years -- it was everywhere, and is gummy, sticky and just plain nasty.

The "slider" for the table is in good shape, but needed cleaning. I did my best to degrease the table slider "sleeve", but for some reason there is a lot of resistance on the slider that I can't seem to eliminate, even after lubrication. Obviously I haven't cleaned it well enough, but how should I do that effectively? It certainly didn't want to come apart easily...

    Your suggestions?

I have had good success with Simple Green on getting grease off kitchen cabinets.

What metal is it made from..? Simple Green is very corrosive to aluminum...steel not so bad...If ya use it rinse it really good & treat with a spray lube till ya figure out yer plan. I'm in the aircraft business & SG has come out with Extreme...non corrosive...Don't use Castrol Purple Power...that will leave ya a mess....Sure there are other thinks & thoughts comin...

Been using a product called super strength Greased Lightning for about a year after I learned how well it worked on overhead hoods in restaurants; this stuff is very tough on grease. I believe it will be safe also on the aluminum frame of a meat slicer.

Reading the container it states: tubs, showers, sinks, fiberglass, tile, stoves, ovens, grills, hoods, refrigerators, vinyl, concrete, carpet, rv's, boats, pools, patio furniture, plastiucs, non-painted metals and stainless steel.

I for the life of me could not remember what this stuff was called. What Mossy said, Greased Lightning.

            Heat

Don't know how big the slider piece is, but if you could put it in a boiling/or very hot water with detergent it helps.

I would have been tempted to hit it with a powerwash at a car wash... then just let it dry in a warm area a day or so.

Some picts might help determine if it's a bearing issue on the slide.

Where does one find this wonderful product, pray tell? I don't think I've seen it locally.
