Did some trimming in my backyard. Can anyone confirm my suspicion that the tree in the foreground of the picture is a Post Oak?

Anyone done much smoking with it?

Bark sure looks like my white oak around garden....Best my knowledge post oak is white oak species that is drought resistent and grows in your part country slowly.Sure someone more familiar with post will chime in...Mine has milder smoke then say native red oak here.I like it for grilling too..I have so much i mainly use as firewood with the BTU being high...

These are the massive white oaks around garden .

The growth and shape of those look like mine. Thanks for the info.

It's an oak. What kind..no idea. Don't think it much matters, tho. Never heard of bad oak smoke.

I've got this site bookmarked also, but it wouldn't load tonight for some reason.

If you pick a leaf and take a picture of that and post it it may give a better clue to what you have. Most oak leaves are distinct between sub-species.
