I made 6 dozen yellow and chocolate cupcakes for a baby shower at work this week. I didn't make homemade icing this time, but bought Pillsbury white frosting and jazzed it up...no not with Mad Hunky. But when you use the store bought icing if you put it in your mixer and whip it for about 10-15 minutes on medium it will double in size and you get more bang for your buck. I also add more powdered sugar to it to make it stiffer...better for decorating!
I made baby heads and blankets out of fondant. I cut the blankets out with a Mason jar...just like my Mom used to do for biscuits and cookies. She always said we didn't need a cookie cutter! After I iced the cupcakes using a decorating bag, I assembled the babies. Basically I just stuck a head into the icing and then put the blanket on. Then I used a toothpick dipped in black icing coloring, and put little faces on the baby heads.
Looks just like a hospital nursery, huh?
Easy to make and they were a big hit at the baby shower. No 2 babies looked alike...some were pretty...some were downright ugly...just like real babies. Thanks for looking!
