  • Smoked Portobello Reubens

Let me begin with apologies to any of you who may have already seen this post over at that "other place" that I choose not to mention or frequent any longer. I would much rather share my efforts with the good people here on "the island".

This was created for a throwdown last year for appetizers.

I happened to have some leftover pastrami from a previous smoke, and decided that this might make an interesting appetizer.

Started out with some nice portobello caps, the pastrami, some sauerkraut, thousand islands dressing and some nice gruyere cheese.

chopped up some of the pastrami and mixed it up with some thousand islands and some kraut.

Rubbed the portobello caps really well with extra virgin oil, then popped them in the GOSM for about an hour.

When they came back in I filled them up with the mixture, then topped it with some shaved gruyere and back into the smoker until the cheese melted a bit.

Then it was just a matter of garnishing them up and serving...they were actually darned good, and I'll make them again the next time I do a batch of pastrami.

    Thanks for looking!

That looks awesome dude. bellas are the yummiest mushroom. I'm gonna have to give your recipe a try.

It's pretty fun hanging out here. I visit over there sometimes, and even make a comment or two but I pretty much quit posting my food. It's just too much work to post it on two sites IMHO.

Never saw it before, of course if it was "over there", then I know why. I got for the post AND the bump if possible. Love those portabellas, and I mean bigtime.
