  • Interesting UDS build

Just stumbled onto this guys "no weld" UDS build in one of my Dutch Oven
forums while checkin out some recipes. He lays it out nicely for everyone and appears to have a bunch of good info in it to boot. If you're new here and considering building one you may want to give his blog a read.

Now, if I was to add my touch to this.......I'd place the wheels on the side under the table and revise the design of the leg so it would look like a
"U" with tabs on each side of the top to bolt through and it could straddle the vent tube. Then moving it around would be more like using a hand truck.....by just holding the outer edges of the table. But it's just a thought.

        Re:

Now, the reason I posted this thread...........was that a bunch of the Dutch Oven cooks were all up in arms at the blasphemy of defiling a DO like this to make a smoke basket for a UDS.

I knew better than to say anything there but If the DO is cracked and could be welded or brazed to save it....then this may be the best use for an old well worn 8 qt size. Or if you could find one that was badly rusted
from sitting out in the weather this may be a good use for it.

VERY cool. i really like the fact that he didn't have to use any valves, and how everything is easily accessible to be used by hand without bending over. the shaker handle was a nice touch too... i never would have thought of that.

as far as the DO being used as a basket: it's a good idea, but i think it would add too much weight to the basket to really justify any good use for it. other than a built-in heat sink of course.
