  • UDS lid question

Now that I have my barrel, I will be looking for a Weber lid. The measurement on the rim of the barrel is 22 3/8" inside and 23" outside.
Does the lid generally fit inside or outside or does it take some modification to fit anywhere? I know there seems to be many different size Webers since I started looking. Also, I noticed some of the great paint jobs on a few of the projects and was wondering if the original paint on the barrel has to be stripped and what type of paint was used. Thanks.

Unfortunately the Weber lid from a 22.5 kettle sits right on top of the rim. You generally have to mod it to get it to fit properly.

There are a couple of different ways to do it.

    This way is pretty easy.

This is a little more difficult.

I used Duplicolor High Heat Engine Enamal and primer on mine and took it down to bare metal.

But it doesn't necessarily have to be done that way.

If you have an angle grinder, I'd just shave back the rolled lip. That's what I did

Also, tapered out the lid edge a bit. The put back on, and w/ a rubber mallet I tapped back down around the shaved lip of the drum
