Y'all are nutz
I mean that in a good way :bounce:

But , I'm not so much of a burn yer taste buds on the way in and .... well ya know the rest :sweating:

So I got maybe 10 or so red chilies ,
a dozen pablanos ,
May end up with 5 -8 habs that turn pretty orange ,
And still close to 15 of them serrono things .

Days are getting short , hunting season starts next weekend ( read: pasta lasagna , abyento , orvwardy , ...

So , given the variety I have , I could use some suggestions as to how best to save and preserve them. :noidea:
Thinking some be best for smoking and drying and powdering ? Don't have a grinder or dehydrator ,, so gotta keep it simple .:noidea:
Freezing some how ,for some in a vac-seal, some how :noidea:

Time is short and my research is lacking ( shoulda thought about this a month ago ) So any easy ideas to save the 4 types of peppers above , including specific threads , would be helpfull :sweating:

You could slice, seed, devein, and throw in the freezer if you are going to use them for cooking. They will thaw kinda limp, but are still great for flavor. The seeding and deveining will take the heat out.

I'm digging the dehydrating and if you don't have a dehydrator you can do it in the oven at your lowest temp, mine is 170 and I just did a bunch of jalapeno's. They turned out great. :banana_smiley:

An Ostyer dehydrator is $43 at Wally World. It's worth it, you'll use it more than you think. I have mine.

I put 'em on skewers & on the grill on low heat & turn 'em a few times until they are dry & almost brittle. It takes a couple of hours. They get a nice roasted flavor this way. You can put 'em in a plastic baggie & crush 'em up but you won't really get a powder that way. They will keep that way for a long time. Get a cheap coffee grinder & make a powder of 'em & put it into an old spice shaker.

The chilis will air dry without much effort. The habs will need to be split open, otherwise they will mold/rot. Same with Japs... and any ofthe thicker bodied peppers.

I agree on the dehydrator if you can. I got a Ronco that is about 20 now and still works great

I've used a sewing needle and light test fishing line and strung em together through the stem. Leave em in the sun to dry and then hang em in my kitchen. Then just use em as I need em in whatever. It's real easy to regulate the heat by using or not using the seeds. They dump right out once they are dry.

They stock this one in the stores.

Most of the rest you have to order online.

That one is a 20 - 35 mile drive to a couple of stores that say they may have it in stock.
Is the reason for recomending that oster that it only has one setting so less chance of things going wrong down the road ?

Easy to get sucked into the variable temps , adding more trays ( like the one I linked to above ), and this one with a lil bigger motor :noidea:

With any one I choose it will have to be shipped to my local store , free shipping , but , take close to a week , I should be back from opening weekend by then ;).
$$$ are tight , so I don't want to end up wishing I'd spent a few $ less or more in a year or two. 10 - 15 $ is worth getting the best I can on a low budget , spending 50$ on something that is junk in a week or year is not something I want to do.

In my case the store is 1/2 mile away and I didn't want to wait. It was the only one they carried in stock. Also Oster does have a pretty good rep. It works fine for what I use it for. I can order a coupla more racks but so far not needed. Don't know about the others or the features, maybe some else can chime in on that.

How in the heck does someone get enough amazon points to pay for that and then get the 2 day shipping on top of that ??? :noidea:
