  • Looking for input. Wood-vs-Charcoal-vs-Briquetes

Thanks for all the welcome messages & nice comments from my initial posting. The Oxygen tank has been removed & replaced with a couple latches. I smoked up a nice butt yesterday & it turned out great but I'm looking for input on fuel. I used primarily lump mesquite charcoal with some pieces of oak for extra smoke. In the past I've used some cherry wood I have but the smoke is so heavy the bark gets real tough & black. The lump charcoal worked alright, just took more than I expected to maintain heat at 250.

What do you folks have the best luck with??

    Thanks,
    Clint

I've burned a bunch of different fuels in my rig and have found, for my purposes, the lump/wood combo to be the best. Done pure oak burns and mixed in small amounts of hickory. Really liked that too. You can get away with a lot of oak as it has a milder taste, but most others you need to be careful. But by your post, I think you already knew that
