  • Best Places to Get Cheese Supplies

If you are in the US or Canada

Glengarry Cheese - Margarete Morris is a cheese maker and teacher of cheese making. She runs a store and classes out of Lancaster, Ontario Canada but will cross the border into NY once a week to ship to us Americans. She has also self published a book called "The Cheesemaker’s Manual." This is a very g ood book but does lack an index. I have NOT found any errors in her book. She will also sign it for you if you ask her. This is the best place to get molds and supplies. She increases her inventory quite often and will special order things if you ask. I asked her to order me 2, 1.5 KG kadova molds for me from Holland she didn't even hesitate and called me when they came in. A great lady!

Dairy Connections - another greeat group that carries most anything you will need in cheese making. They do get many of there supplies from Glengarry and will even tell you that.

Danlac - a company in Canada that specialiszes in cultures and enzyms for cheese making. They also have a good bit of info on their site and will email you recipes from time to time. Good people to work with and have recipes on their site. I have spoken with Egon many times and we put our heads together designing cheese recipes. Look for a cheese and they list what you need.

Ullmers Dairy Equipment - Met them too and they are a trip! They will do price matching agaist eBay and sell used equipment. Good prices on stainless steel molds, tables you name it in dairy. I have bought pieces from them I have used for everything from BBQ to Kegging check them out!

Wow, I looked up her book on Amazon just for kicks, there's a used one going for $93.00 and a new one for $248.64!!!! No thanks, I'm pretty sure the exchange rate isn't that bad, I'll buy it straight from her for CDN$49.95.

              Yep same one.

              http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...condition=used

The $250 one isn't listed anymore, but they still have 4 used ones starting at $93 and going up to $186.54.

lol well I can only go on what I've done so far from ricki carrolls book - and it's worked.

I guess only another experienced cheese maker is going to spot the mistakes. The rest of us just do it and it works.

Hmm, think my sister isn't too far from lancaster - have to look that's a roadtrip she'd definitely take :-)

(2 minutes later - looks like a loong way on the map - oh well)
