  • Chest Freezer Conversion - Gas or Electric

What are you guys that have home builts used.
Will be able to go electric or gas.
Has anyone used the installation kits from Sausagemaker.
Are there better conversion kits out there.

Oz is 250V 60Hz but there are transformers out there, so dont see Sates bought 110Volt Units a problem

Looking at being States side soon so might pick something up.

Any Oz smokers have any local thoughts or suppliers able to supply installations appreciated as well.

    Cheers Spud

The problem is the interior... has to be metal. Plastic walls won't be what you want.
Good to see ya Spud... hey if yer Stateside... get me an address... I have a rub and brine gift for you :{)

      Hey there Rich.
Yep on the way back again, not sure of "In and Out" Ports this time but when tickets in hand will let you know.

I do have to do Vendor Shop visit to DFW at end & hoping to be there a few days on way out so we will have a few weeks to sort something out. Thanks for the thought as well.Do require some more Rub as well LOL.. Bloody fine stuff you make brother.

Smoker, is an old Freezer that has steel interior. have tipped her up on edge as usual, fitted hard wood edge on Freezer and Door, havent managed to fit them together as yet.
So she is WIP at the moment.

Was thinking of picking up a Sausagemakers Gas or electic kit this trip.
As usual cant find anything local here in Perth so any help appreciated.

Well, look thru the SM catalog... I'd be happy to handle the logistics for you, or you need some advice on what to get? What's the volume of the bugger you have? And you looking to hot smoke too?

I have propane in my fridge build intended mostly for sausage. With quite a bit of help from other members here I was able to configure a way to equip mine to be thermostatically controlled, with an electric 12 volt pilot igniter, and a transformer to convert the igniter to 110.

                Thanks Guys for the thoughts
Cavity is 21" x 28" x 63" so its not all that small. Looking at Hot and Cold, unit will be for all sorts of Smoking jobs, anything in fact that will sit still long enough to get a brining needle up its B--.

Great reading Wannabe, my Boss isnt that helpful, likes the eating part but would sooner have someone else do the making.

Ken-where I'm headed for is Columbia then back to Grapevine, our Engine Vendor is in there somewhere. Good luck to your lad, aviation isnt what she used to be. Used to be the Primier of Engineering, now not so. We can thanks events over the last decade for that as we all know.
Forgive me for guessing but might you be in a position to fully kit me out.
If so where can I drop in to see you when I'm in Dallas. If out of the way, can I have stuffed sent to Vendor for my pick up. Will PM U.

                Cheers Spud.
