So the tradition is for the PA Dutch, old school, is on fat Tuesday you use up your stores of fat and flour before Lent begins. This is done by making fasnachts, a (sometimes) yeast raised donut made with mashed potatoes. No hole, triangle meant to represent the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, the rectangular represents the four stations of the cross. These are heavy donuts...we call them sinkers because of their heavier nature. My mom made up the dough this morning and we fried them up tonight, her on the rolling out, me on the frying and sugaring...
We have a small batch of cinnamon sugar, regular sugar, and a whole lot of powdered sugar...I think estimation is around 240 donuts...(but they're small)
