  • Scored some Apple

Found a guy who cut down an apple tree and was able to get some of the wood. It's green, so does it need to dry first? Can it be used now? Thanks

Got to let it dry out for a few months. You should be good later this summer.

If you split it now it should be dry enough in 6-8 months, depending on wood size and drying conditions where you live. If you use chunks then cut it down to that size, split them and store in the garage or in the house and you should be good to go in 6-8 weeks.

The smaller you cut it up the quicker it will be ready. I would split it up to the size that you want it to be when you use it for smoking stuff.

Depends on what you want to use it for. If you just plan on throwing a few chunks on the charcoal to make some smoke...use it now. If you plan on using to to fuel your stick burner, ya gotta' let it season a while.
