My man Mikey from So. California hooked me up yet again this week. Last year aboot this time he helped out in modding my Brinkmann stickburner. The thread is on here somewhere. This time he was kind enough to fabricate and send a couple of mods for my kettle. Included in my package today was an offset charcoal basket and a couple of fire bricks exactly cut to fit. His instructions also called for lining the rest of the charcoal grate with foil and let 'er fly.
Not having a lot of time for anything involved, decided to try it out tonight with 2 frozen chicken burgers for the ball and chain, and 2 half-pound ground beef burgers for moi. One each for dinner and another one each for lunch tomorrow.
The mods hold in the heat, therefore using less fuel, therefore enabling longer smokes. I can now see doing a pork butt on my kettle and being able to pull it off using way less fuel than my other smokers. Check it out.

Thanks Mikey. :thumb:

I've been using the Smokenator on my kettle for a few months now, and been thinking about adding some fire bricks to help control the heat. Seeing this, Im going to foil the grate. Looks Awesome! I love smoking on my Weber

Thjat looks really good. That is a great mod, what are the measurements on this? I want to fix one for my weber and it would make it easier. Also how think are the fire bricks?
Thanks in advance!!

The fire bricks are 1.5" thick, and measure 4.5" X 9". He cut one of them so they would both fit however across the kettle in front of the charcoal basket. I tried Webers charcoal holders but this one works way better IMO. Hope that helps. :thumb:

Thanks bro for the help! So for a dummy like me, this pic,the basket for the charcoal is 4.5 "middle up and down X 9" long across the bricks? What is the height bottom grate to top grate?

Thanks, Steve
