  • skillet apple pie

best I have ever had, shared the recipe with a few people.

    2 pounds Granny Smith apples
    2 pounds Braeburn apples
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    3/4 cup granulated sugar
    1/2 cup butter
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
    1 (14.1-oz.) package refrigerated piecrusts
    1 egg white
    2 tablespoons granulated sugar

start w/ butter & brown sugar in skillet on stove and heat to boiling,
add bottom pie crust over the caramel mixture, then apple and cinnamon & sugar mixture, I used 2 granny smith and 2 braeburn apples cored and chopped, add top crust and brush with egg white mixture, sprinkle a little granulated sugar over, make a few slices in crust for steam and bake @ 350(tree-fiddy) for approx 1hr and 10 minutes.

Oh man I love apple pie. I have been wanting a smaller cast iron skillet but I didn't know what I would use it for but this looks perfect. Is it hard to clean up after?

Great recipe! I was a little concerned when I first read 2 pounds each of the apples but I see you only used 2 apples of each.

I let it soak in hot water for about 30 minutes and it cleaned right up.

so you put the pastry on top of the caramel ?
And then cook it - how on earth do you get the pie out of the skillet ?

Kind of a tart tatin with pastry. You got any pics of it out of the skillet ?
