I think I made both a 30 gal and 55 gal for about $100, just love craigslist
A Good Day is Outdoor Cookin and Drinkin Home Brew
Homemade Barrel offset smoker/Grill
55 gal UDS/BADS
30 Gal UDS/BADS
Weber 22.5 Kettle Grill
about 8 other grills???
BBQ Guru DigiQ DX2 temp control
I agree that is way to expensive. I have seen a few people with doors on their drums but if you don't seal them good you can have issues. Personally I don't see any need for a door as I have never had to add fuel to my fire and the door is too small to remove your charcoal basket so you would have to lift it out the top anyway if you are removing ashes or cleaning the bottom of the drum. Personal preference thing I guess.
Propane Smoke Shack
UDS
Great Outdoors Smoky Mountain

I'm guessing the side door is for the water pan access.
All the UDS's I've built have a bottom pull out access.
Works great, seals tight. You can add chips or chunks or chips whenever you like, add lump if needed, pull out if too hot, crack the door to get the temp up fast, etc.

Those are some awesome access doors you have built there.
Us non-welders are jealous.
I'm loving your deflectors though. Thanks for those.

Hey how come my poor store is always getting linked talking about how much they cost? lol JK To me I would consider it a starters unit, I had a guy call me last week to ask about it and you can tell he knew his stuff and talked about his old drum smoker and how it held temps and this and that ... I just told him this is not the unit for him because I know he would not of been happy. for the Avg backyard guy or a younger guy looking to get into learning and maybe they don't have the skill set to build one or the time I would say its a decent unit.
