Chit, you can make 3 maybe 4 drums for the price of this one.

I've seen this in person @ BBQ Island Inc.

It's flimsy, and has way too many places that can leak.

They tested it there at the store, and weren't impressed at all. I believe they're even having trouble sending them back now

Agree that it looks flimsy. But I do like the idea of a door in a drum.

I agree that is way to expensive. I have seen a few people with doors on their drums but if you don't seal them good you can have issues. Personally I don't see any need for a door as I have never had to add fuel to my fire and the door is too small to remove your charcoal basket so you would have to lift it out the top anyway if you are removing ashes or cleaning the bottom of the drum. Personal preference thing I guess.

I'm guessing the side door is for the water pan access.

All the UDS's I've built have a bottom pull out access.

Works great, seals tight. You can add chips or chunks or chips whenever you like, add lump if needed, pull out if too hot, crack the door to get the temp up fast, etc.

Those are some awesome access doors you have built there.

I just amoked 12 racks of BB's the past two weekends. That diffuser works great for me.

                      Glad it's working for you!

It may also work in for my new dual fuel UDS I may be building this Summer.

                          Check the "propane" thread.

I have a few friends that are Cardinal football fans. They tailgate in the parking lot that does not allow charcoal grills, etc. Only propane.

So I'm looking at designing a BUFORD that can smoke / grill with propane and then easily revert to conventional lump.

Should be pretty easy really with the side door access.

Hey how come my poor store is always getting linked talking about how much they cost? lol JK To me I would consider it a starters unit, I had a guy call me last week to ask about it and you can tell he knew his stuff and talked about his old drum smoker and how it held temps and this and that ... I just told him this is not the unit for him because I know he would not of been happy. for the Avg backyard guy or a younger guy looking to get into learning and maybe they don't have the skill set to build one or the time I would say its a decent unit.
