  • Pear and Apricot Wood Question

My wife's cousin cut down a pear and an apricot tree and gave me a carton full of the cut branches. I'm looking at smoking a brisket tomorrow and wonder if either of these woods would be a good match?

I do have some Hickory chunks from the store as well, just in case those fruit woods aren't ideal.

FruI had it woods are awesome. Pear is generally a light smoke. Is it seasoned and dry?

I had a neighbor bring me some peach wood and I just tried it last few smokes...it is one of my new favorites. Apple is the one wood I would use if I could only pick one. Cherry is my main go to due to availability and price, and I love the taste it imparts.

Check the sticky that Tex has on woods and their flavors too...http://www.smoked-meat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1

I use pear the majority of the time cause its what I got. On beef you won't get a very Smokey taste IMO. However it my go to wood for pork or chicken a nice mild sweet taste.

Both the Pear and Apricot are very dry. Been in the shed for a year or so. They are small branches, maybe 4 inches in diameter or so, maybe a little bigger.

I use apricot from time to time. Now I think it is similar to pecan, but a bit stronger. Any fruit wood is great.
