  • Smoke from a Masterbuilt Propane Smoker

I have smoked on everything but a propane smoker until now and I soon realized I needed help.

What is the best method to make smoke?

Have a buddy who use to use the foil method. Make a pouch out of wood chips, poke some holes in the top, and set on the heat source.

Thank you much for the idea tadowdaddy and I am surprised at the lack help.

I assume there is not much experience using a propane smoker on this forum.

If all u r going to burn is pellets the amazin would be the way to go. I burn wood chunks and pellet and some sawdust chips left over from the chain saw so the Smoke daddy is the way to go there.
Check out you tube for smokers and see how some have used cast iron and the lids for a wood chip holder on the propane flame.
            That works great also

              Thanks all.
I have two smoke daddy's, the A-Maz-Smoker for dust and also the new tube version and all work fine.

The thing is, I am trying to use this propane smoker the way it is designed for and not use add-ons.

              Is this possible?

The foil method will produce quite enough smoke. Give er a try.

OK, I will try the foil method and thanks again everyone.
I thought all one have to do was start the gas fire and add wood, boy am I wrong.

I have used and old cake pan covered in foil with tooth pick size holes. Maybe a dozen or so. I also used a small wood chunk about the size of a quarter. Bigger then that I had not good results. I also use the mazin smokenator.

Using Don’s suggestion of wood chips in foil with small holes and it does produce a lot of smoke so now I just have to refine this method.

Next I am going to try JustSmoke2’s suggestion of an cake pan covered with foil.

                      Thanks y'all.

Not sure what you mean. I have a GOSM that works great by just adding wood chunks to the wood box that sits over the heat source. What are you having problems with exactly?

                          Thanks for offering to help.

Maybe it is the product I am using. It does not have a smoker box but instead it has a open pan over the burner for wood chips or chunks.

When I add wood chunks or water soak chips I get a nice smoke for awhile and then the wood ignites.

It looks like this. On top of the pan is a A-MAZ-Smoker Tube I received from Todd.

What do you do with the bar and chain oil from the chain saw? Not trying to be a jerk, I have avoided using CS dust because of the oil. I have a lot of them (oak trees) but they do have oil on them.

My brother has the same problem with his propane smoker. I'm curious to see what people come up with.
