  • Ok, sellin all me smokers......

The wife has approved me buying a Yoder 640 as long as I sell my current smokers. I have a 2008 Traeger Texas grill, in wonderful shape with an updated digital thermostat for $300. I also have a hardly used MES 30, with custom grates for smoking jerky that I made and that have been used once. Pricing it at $115 with the stock grates and my custom grates. I'll put up pics VERY soon! Already sold me 6 year old 22.5 WSM for $150.

That is if I can sell my current smokers!!!!!!!! Hope I can, they're very reasonably priced, and I'm willing to talk if they aren't good enough.

Congrats, wife's approval is the toughest part...

I know you can sell you MES, get the Yoder and always pick up another MES; but I would consider keeping the MES, they do have their purpose, right tool for the right job.

We purchased our Yoder last Winter and with having our large upright vertical for large sausage smokes still find uses for our MES 30 and 40.

Thanks for the advice. The MES is the tougher of the 2 to part with, due to it's ability to smoke cheese, jerky, etc. at a really low temp. I'm sure I could not get rid of it and still get the Yoder, but the wife does have to see me attempt to get rid of it..

With wives, you just gotta be patient, once in a while that one mood comes around when you can sneak in just about any half reasonable proposition and they go for it...

            timing is everything!!

Good luck on the sale. The used smoker market isnt very promising, Im finding that out. I had to give away my old Bar B Chef stick burner when I got my Masterbuilt, and now Im having problems getting any interest in selling my Masterbuilt gasser too. But Im still counting the days til my Yoder comes in. Should be in next week.

Good advice on keeping the MES for cold smokes, I may look for some other poor soul trying to get rid of his.

Yeah, I was talking to me neighbor who has always been enthused about smoking. I gave him first shot at it. He's giving it a go today I believe. May have to stop over there to see what he's doing.

                          Good luck Don

Tough to part with an electric as you mentioned, sure nice to have around for backup when you just don't feel like tending a fire, etc. & the cheese, jerky & nice to have them for temp control on cured sausages also.

I'm gonna keep the MES. May as well. She agreed to it last night. I did decide that I'm gonna run the Traeger for a few more weeks. The daughter's 1 year old bday is coming up, and I'm smoking chickens to use in my super secret chicken salad recipe for sandwiches. Don't have enough time to get the Traeger sold and to get the Yoder in time to do the chickens (2 weeks), so I'm going to just be patient. However, the Traeger will be on the block soon and I will be a Yoder owner by summer's end, fall at the latest. I'll be putting up pics soon here as well as on Craigslist. I would love to pull the trigger right now, but the wife would be a bit upset if I didn't get rid of the Traeger first because I agreed to do so....

I hear the Green Mountain Jim Bowies have less temp fluctuations when new pellets enter the chamber. Have you looked at those?
