Watched last two episodes of BBQ Pit masters late last night...early this morning actually. I'm not sure if it was this season or which, but it didn't matter because it's the first I've seen it since the first year. Any way, they were talking of the money muscle, which I'd never heard of before, so I looked it up and came across a very detailed web site that lists some great info for comp pork turn in. Also asnwered quite well about the money muscle.

Now I have to figure out where those darn glands are that I just heard about on here!!!

Myron Mixon always swears by the money muscle. I guess I've never been in a competition so I've never bothered to try and identify it on a butt but I have been curious since I hear lots of competition guys talking about it. Thanks for the link.
Fire it up

You have to try the money muscle, the flavor and tenderness are beyond amazing and it's what dreams are made of :drooling:
Even if you don't remove it before smoking tear a few pieces off before you shred your next batch of pulled pork. You'll be happy you did.
Here's a good thread Alex did a while back where he removed the entire thing and smoked it by itself.

That's what the one woman did last night in the comp, she tied it off and did it seperately. She almost blew it though as it cooked faster and she almost over cooked it. I'm gonna have to pay attention next shoulder!

Big DQ in comp cooking...you CAN lay it out STILL ATTACHED... but you cannot seperate it. Not that that matters at home. FYI is all.

It (butt) must be cooked as a whole piece of meat! Or disQ!

Well it's funny how she did it, she left one of the ends still attached so it wasn't completely separated.

Must be cooked as whole meat, as in not cut or separated...one chunk of meat! Or DQ! If something is smoked outside of the "surrounding" meat, it is obvious, And a DQ (in FBA)!
