  • Legs on Webber Kettle

For the longest time the legs on my 18.5" OTS have been the weak point. They hardly fit in the sockets anymore. If I'm not careful picking it up or rolling it they just fall out.

I realize they're just thin aluminum and I could probably flare the ends some with pliers to make a tighter fit, but before I do that I wanted see if anyone else has this problem and if they have a good fix for it?

I pre-drill, then shoot little sheet metal screws through the sockets into the legs to hold them in place.

      Good fix.

Mine do the same thing... really piss poor design. The early kettles used to have a thumbscrew in each socket to hold the legs, butt that ain't no more...

Nothing like trying to move a kettle with a load of lit charcoal and food a foot or so, then the damn front leg falls off. Jeezus!

Don't have a good fix for it but would be interested in seeing what others have to say.
I have a nice old weber kettle top that the legs rusted off loooong ago.
Used to belong to my Parents and they just let it sit outside and never used it so I took it but by then the damage had been done.
Now it just sits around waiting.

I thought about the screw thing too, but I wasn't real keen on trying to drill through a round, ceramic-coated object and not screw it up.

use a good drill bit, washers and those locking nuts with the plastic inserts, and i bet that it will be OK.

Another thing that works if you don't want to drill holes is using the screw-type hose clamps around the leg sockets. The leg sockets have a split in them, and the clamp will squeeze it together.

I am going to send a link to this thread to Weber. Great grills, but I too have dealt with the leg issue(used the drill/screw method) to fix.

I'm guessing they were designed the way they are to fit in a box & for shipping
