  • Another new smoker and my first offset smoker

My buddy picked up a free Char-Broil offset smoker a few months back and for what ever reason he asked me if I wanted it. I figured I can't pass up a free smoker that is still in decent shape so I snatched it up. Just a little work with the wire wheel and some new paint and this baby will be looking good. I've always wanted a offset smoker so I'm pretty pumped about this. I can't wait to read up on all the Mods I need to do and fire this baby up. I'm sure I'll have some questions along the way.

Can't beat the price! Good smoker, a little bit of a learning curve to it... look forward to seeing some smokes off of it, congrats!

The mods I have are for the Char-Griller, which is a mirror image of what you have, butt will still work... You'll just need a mirror... I hope you get it rockin' brutha! Got any questions, just ask.

So do I stick with Lump/Briquettes with this baby or do I need to switch to burning splits?

I used splits with one like that I had a few years back. Had trouble keeping temps up with just charcoal.
Lang 36 Patio, a few Webers, 2 Eggs, plenty of gadgets and a MES 40 Gen 2.5 electric for bacon and sausage.
My best asset however is the inspiration from the members on this forum.

She's still a charcoal unit, Ross.

With my CharGriller I start with coals then feed it wood for the rest of the time unless I need a heat boost, then toss in a few more coals but 90% wood for fuel usually.
