  • SYD Class in Scottsdale at 50% off $399 on Oct 20 at Four Seasons

    http://www.smoked-meat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18664

I noticed that my students had a great time at my 2011 AZ class at Chandler. Now I've upped the ante by teaching at the luxurious Four Seasons on Sat Oct 20.
    Full details at http://www.swbbqa.com/
    and at
    http://www.slapyodaddybbq.com/2012/0...-az-on-oct-20/

My regular class in Diamond Bar, CA, covers 15 items. For this Four Seasons class, I'm adding 5 items: a mini whole hog, beef ribs, lamb ribs, moinks, and fatties. It will be first class as the Four Seasons Scottsdale will be handling the site logistics and BBQ Island will be providing pits and support. We have sponsors lined up to give swag to students. Don't miss this one-of-a-kind event!

This may ruffle feathers, and Harry my man you're a great BBQ'r I believe that and I love how you think outside the box. But one post and its an ad for your class? How about throwing a few teasers and know how on the forum and get some board rep.

I think i will just wait for the same info to show up on the forum.
That would buy a lot of meat.

I'm not anywhere near where I wanna be smoke wise, and every day on this forum I see great cooks with years of experience. The contrast from what I cook and what most of you know is pretty obvious to me. Yah, its a blatant ad... but it looks like a good course from a guy who knows what I wanna know....

That, is a fine idea. The challenge. Harry, this ones for bragging rights that ain't gonna be on TV. Win a whole forum over maybe, and gain some respect. Put the WSM in the mini van and smoke it old school? Shit, I'd pay for the plane ticket and learn more than maybe be the class would teach. I am so in...

Yes, I know that sounds like a lot of money. A couple of thoughts my students have shared with me:
                  1. It's about 1/2 price compared to what others are charging
                  2. 15+ items are covered in a hands-on mode in 6 hours. Not you watching someone cook 4 meats over two days.
                  3. You eat yourself into a food coma and take all the food you cooked home. The class goes through 100 lbs of meat and sides
                  4. You get a commercial SYD apron, class manual, certificate, and rub.
                  5. One year free tech support
                  6. You jump start your learning curve by at least 2 years because my students have told me that that's what they feel the value is. Many have cooked for 5-10 years before taking my class and winning their first GC. Famous Dave who attended my class is a pitmaster for 35 years and he told me he still learned a few things. Yes, it's true that you can learn via Youtube and Internet and can practice many times. Figure the cost of meat to cook 15 items again and again, you'll probably spend a lot more on meat than the class fee to get it right.

Class sold out in 3 days

I picked just one BBQ forum, this one, among the many on the Internet to let folks know about about my class and to spread BBQ knowledge and love.
Instead, some call it as a blatant ad. Some call it a hit and run.
If you have seen my extensive posts, you will get to know me better if you read what I answered to over 250 questions about BBQ
                    http://tvwbb.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/frm/f/425100764
In hindsight, perhaps I should not have announced my class on this forum as it was misconstrued by some.
I already knew my AZ class will be sold out as I have many inquiries from around the country. For example, my Pennsylvania class in March 2013 is almost sold out. The Hawaii one in Nov is completely sold out.
I just wanted to get the word out so folks on this forum would get a leg up and get a spot before they are gone.
The class sold out in 3 days after it was posted. The Four Seasons is now taking a wait list. I tried my best to give everyone on this forum a chance to get in on the action. Perhaps it was naive on my part to expect that folks would understand what I was trying to do.
Here is an account of a person's experience with my class:
