Threw a ham in my Masterbuilt smoker about 2 hours ago and a half hour ago, I heard a sound like a plane going over. Got up to check the smoker and there were flames shooting out from under it. I shut the tank off and investigated. Somehow the gas line burned through and caught fire. So now til I can find another gas line it's back to the UDS. I wonder if the cast iron skillet that I'm using for a wood chip pan is trapping too much heat under it? It didn't do that last time I used it.

I had a grill do that several years ago. Don't know if the line was cracked, damaged, etc since it was gone when I discovered it, but I pretty much just had a torch under the grill. Melted the bottom out of the damn thing by the time I found it. Sure was glad it wasn't up next to the house.
Sorry about your smoker, but glad it wasn't worse.FBJ

I have a (now retired) Masterbuilt XL gasser and used the cast iron frying pan for wood chips for a long time without problems. I made an adjustable height rack for the frying pan to set the rate in which the chips smoked, so you could possibly have the pan too close. Good luck finding parts for it (#%^#@ Chinese made products). As for mine, its now relegated to cold smoker duties too. If its the rubber line going from the valve to the tank, I think thats just a standard propane line with common Lp fittings that you should be able to pick up at Home Depot, Lowes or any place that sells gas bbq parts.
Good Luck, MichChefMike
