  • Hey everybody! No idea what I am doing!!

    Ok here it goes; I
have been looking for a pellet grill / smoker for about a year and a half now. I have done what I conceder to be a lot of research and that research keeps bringing me back to the Yoder YS640. I am looking for any input good or bad pro or con. I want to make an educated decision and I would appreciate ANY help I can get.

I think if you did a search on the YS640 here... you'd get an overall very positive review data base. There HAS been issues but Yoder's customer service is ..well..awesome, if needed.

        Welcome from Dayton!!

I love my YS640! Have had it for just over a year now and it keeps getting better and better as I learn my pit! I think that is the biggest thing... you have to learn your pit and its ins and outs! that is what I would say... the yoder you get sent to you will be ROCK SOLID!!! It will put out some of the best food you have ever cooked! If you have any specific questions feel free to ask! Like rich said do a search for YS640 and you will see a ton of cooks on them!

        Good luck!!

I cooked on one of the fist YS640 Beta pits for about 8 months until it went into production. I have about a year and a half on the production unit. I have been cooking like mad on it and it's a stellar cooker. Built like a tank too.
Smoke it.. and they will come!

Wingman, I have watched all of your videos and read all of your reviews on the YS640 I must say you do a great job. Do you have a pellet preference and what is your or anyone else's take on pellet storage? I live in central PA and the whole pellete grill / smoker thing has not taken off here yet so I will have to order my pellets.

I think Wngman uses BBQ delight.... I like them as well but get a better deal on Lumberjack and you can get 100% wood flavors as well.. something BBQ Delight does not do... You can get either of them shipped in... an 1/2 ton of pellets takes up about as much room as a Large Frig/freezer.... I am in Ohio and I too have to have mine shipped in... no biggie... just have to wait for the delivery man once a year and you are good to go!! Do a seache for pellets and you will see a good reviews on them... if you have any questions send a PM to TJohnson... our resident pellet expert on the site! he will answer anything you need to know!

Thanks for the info. What is your take on storge of pellets? Can you explain a little more about what you mean when you say "100% wood flavors "?

I got your answer to the first in the other thread...

Pellets are often blended with Oak or Alder... BBQ Delight is 60% Oak and 40% flavor wood.... A 100% flavor wood is exactly that... 100% what ever wood you are wanting... If it is Hickory then it is 100% Hickory and you get that 100% flavor.. Alder does not have as much smoke flavor as Hickory likewise with Oak... Anyway you do sacrifice some BTUs but that is okay with me if i am getting the flavor I want. Hope that helps.

My wife (and I) has a Yoder YS640 since last January and love it. I still find myself researching and looking at other pellet grills... the YS640 in my opinion is still the best bang for your money.
