Hey I am interested in getting input on weather or not it is beneficial to buy pellets in bulk? I am also looking for idea’s for pellet storage. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am also going to post this under the helpful info forum because I am not sure where I should be posting this.

I leave them in the bag and do not even seal it...or roll it... just let it hang out... NO issues... they do recommend no laying on garage floor so water from car does not make its way to the bag.. so put them on a few boards and you are good to go!

I buy mine in bulk and store them in a shed. While the shed has a wood floor, I still made a rack to keep them 3" off of THAT floor...and then they are covered with a tarp, just in case the roof leaks a little. I have about 80 lbs. of pellets in a 22 gallon galvanized garbage can next to my Yoder ys640. I make my own hand mixed blend, then dump them into the can for quick access. I have had no problems with moisture .
I have spoken to Jerry at Lumberjack pellets in the past about this issue. He advised me NOT to store them on concrete floors, but rather to make a shelf as I described above. He also pointed out that the bags have 6 small holes at the top and bottom. This allows the extra air to be pushed out of the bag when you stack them...instead of "popping" the bag.
When you stack the bags, the holes are pretty much closed...but still allow the pellets ability to breath. Thus allowing the pellet bags to vent the trace amounts of moisture still left in the pellets. The older the pellets...the drier they are. But,the pellets will not extract moisture or odors from the air. Case in point...I spill some kerosene in my shed this spring...kinda freaked. I called Jerry...he told me not to worry and explained the whole deal. 3 months later when the smell finally dissipated, my pellets were unharmed.
Hope this helps.Mark
