Backyard BBQ Dads, first comp

Just an update, next weekend June 19-21 is the Rock 'N Ribfest in Merrimack NH. Smokn' Steve and I, Smokin' Dick, are going to be first time competitors under the team name of Backyard BBQ Dads. We will be doing both the grilling comp and the BBQ comp. He will be bringing his Lang 60 with all his paraphernalia, and I will have a collection of small smokers including the Mini.
Come on by and say hi if you can. I will do my best to have a bunch of pics of the event and of course the food, so stay tuned for that. Since this is our first comp, we are hoping to NOT end up in last place.
As an added bonus Steve's two daughters are in one of the competing bands on Friday night. There name is "Fyve"

Sounds great... Wish I was closer.. A little food for thought. Have a family member or someone that will not be helping cook take the pics... You will be surprised how busy you will be...

Good idea on the pics TH. Steve and I did a practice cook last weekend and there were very few photos taken. These comps look like fun but they certainly get frantic at that turn in time!

What Ken said!! I hardly ever take pics during a comp...to busy doing other stuff. Good luck at the contest and make sure you have fun!! and NOT come in DAL!!

You'll be fine, Steve is an excellent Q cook, and he has a gift of Q. Do yourselves a favor and make sure you get arround and visit with the other cooks. Most of them love to help out the new guys, and they will give you good advise.

Good luck ya all, But I am sure by all the post and help you have given us new folks starting out you will be fine. don't over think if that is possible and stay on task..
and you know you can q with the best of em..
wish I was close I would love to go to an event and see the pros at work..

I am lucky to have a Richard as a team member considering he has everything packed in his van already, I just have to bring the foil and the paper towels--HAHHAH.

I/we hope to document this event real well for this forum. I have 4 weeks of not much to do after this event so I will try to learn about what the rest you all have been doing for cooks,etc!!
