  • New Years Eve feast, surf and turf crab legs and chuckeye steaks seared in cast iron

well last night, (new years eve) decided to do something a bit different. no smoke so i used that metal box in the kitchen...

started out with some frozen crab legs which were on the big seafood sale

got some water boiling in a big pot, i also seen some chuck eye steaks so grabbed a pack a them. have heard Rob(Blues) mention them so thought i would give them a shot. I also got my cast iron pan which i got from Sportsmans wharehouse when they were having the going out of business at our location. never used it before but i know Becky has one and if i remember right she liked it so thought i would pan fry them steaks. some butter in the pan

and throw on the seasoned chuckeye's

meanwhile the legs are steaming away...

    after first flip

as these developed a nice sear on the outside, i was amazed at how tender they were appearing to be.

tossed in one of those boughten garlic bread kits in the oven. here it is finished.

    the crab is done...

my new years plate, see ya 2012, howdy 2013! the mayan calander thing didnt happen, nirubu didnt show up, the solar alignment didnt cause the poles to shift, and whatever else they were talking about. lets eat! oh yeah, had to try out them green bean things Rich has been raving aboot of late!

back to that chuck eye steak, seriously just butter in a hot pan with ridges, this really was the best steak i have had in a long long time. that pan is gonna see alot more use in the future no doubt. Kudos to Blues for mentioning the chuckeye, and Becky on the pan. wish i would have tried it long time ago. but dayum that was some good steak!

anyway forgot aboot the garlic bread, will have to reheat a bit today and dunk in some roasted garlic mater sauce!

thanks for lookin at my cookin, and Happy New Year everyone!

Only 2 chuckeyes per cow, so they are kind of a quiet little secret.... and tasty too!

Outstanding E!!! That steak looks awesome. I have had those chuckeye steaks and you are correct, they are very flavorful and tender as well. I use them to grind for burgers. Nice looking plate of grub deserving of some

            looks good
I'd have swapped that for mine any day of the week.

Due to one thing and another (pigeon sausage, bacon jam and a fillum) - I ended with cheese on toast at about 11:30.
Mind you I spread bacon jam on the toast before adding the cheese. But still - it ain't exactly cuisine
