Is there a spot where a person can find out about such contests in their area?

I dunno... I might have time for this one. It's a bit of a hike for Dan, and he's been busy. And I have a wedding the next weekend... cheap enough entry, but small prizes too.

Too far to drive to possibly win $100. I would have that into Gas , meat ,and supplies!

I might be going that far for a wedding reception cook anyways!

Thanks for posting it though. I bet there are a few Michigan folks who might wanna cook ribs on a sunday for fun and prizes!

While driving back from the airport on I-96 west, saw that the Novi Rock Financial Center is having a Rib Cookoff on the 9th also. Expensive, but good prizes and $. about $175 to enter and the 1st place team gets $1500 and goes to Memphis in Rib category.

                  Here's the website http://www.experiencewo.com/

Little too pricy for me, but the Fenton thing may be a player.......

I just marked this on my calendar to attend. Fenton is only 20 miles south of me. I've not played with ribs enough to perfect my own recipe, always trying something different, but I'll be looking for you there Bubba.

Getting info about it is like pulling hen's teeth. I ended up having to go to the Fenton Community & Cultural Center website

                        http://www.fentoncommunitycenter.org/

and call them at 810-629-2512 , where I was told for more info to call Tom Austin at the State Bank 810-629-2263 and after 3 calls, he still hasn't answered his phone.

First off I'd like to know just where in Fenton it's being held so I can MapQuest it and IF I decide to enter I'd like to know how much meat needs to be cooked, if I can do any pre preperation (Marinating or Rubbing) and there's also no date on the app that says when it has to be turned in by.

I'll try to call again later on if not tomorrow.

I'll have to try to find a place to meet at the site. I'd like to meet you Rich. Bubba should be easy to find if he has a booth.

Downtown Fenton...hard to miss... the address of the Kiwanas club (hosts) is 150 Leroy St.

No, as in ALL events I have ever heard of or attended, meat must be sealed and at 40° or below at inspection.

Typically enough for 6 judges. I do 3-4 slabs and pick the best.

And no date has been specified that I found... yer OK prolly till next week anyway. I'm sending my entry in tomarrow.

The meat must be sealed how? In the packaging that it comes in from the store? What if I were to marinate them, then vacuum seal them, OR freeze them in a vac bag with marinade in it, then vac seal them?

Never done this before, so if I decide to, I want to not get disQed as soon as I show up.

This is really just a little fun rib burn, half the guys use gassers so don't be embarassed by your equipment or cooking style.

All the info is in the first post and more info can be found at GLBBQA.com.

                              P.S....i gotta ask, marinating ribs?
