I had to try it! I love me some pizza and when I did the burn in and seasoning of the Scottsdale I noticed that this pit came up to temp very quickly and doesn't require allot of fuel to do so. I got to thinking... Could this thing be a killer pizza cooker?
So tonight I built a fire and it wasn't a big one. I could have easily doubled the lump and still gone with the two sticks I burned. Given the fuel I used and keep in mind that this was my first pizza cook and I simply guessed on the amount needed. I achieved 487 degrees at the center of the grate on the right side, cooking indirectly. The pizza cooked in 21 minutes and turned out amazing. I bet with more fuel I could achieve 600 degrees. I will be trying that out soon. I also provided David Gonzales some specs on fitting the cooker for a 19" griddle found on Amazon. He quickly agreed to make the mods in the form of drop in inserts that accommodate the griddle and level it out. This guy is all about versatility and quality. Made in the USA!
So here's the deal... As much as I love my other two cookers and I really do. The Yoder YS640 is my #1 due to its ease of use. That said... The Scottsdale is now my go to Pizza cooker hands down.
