  • The Scottsdale as a Pizza Oven - Wood Fire Cooked Pizza on the Scottsdale. I love it!

I had to try it! I love me some pizza and when I did the burn in and seasoning of the Scottsdale I noticed that this pit came up to temp very quickly and doesn't require allot of fuel to do so. I got to thinking... Could this thing be a killer pizza cooker?

So tonight I built a fire and it wasn't a big one. I could have easily doubled the lump and still gone with the two sticks I burned. Given the fuel I used and keep in mind that this was my first pizza cook and I simply guessed on the amount needed. I achieved 487 degrees at the center of the grate on the right side, cooking indirectly. The pizza cooked in 21 minutes and turned out amazing. I bet with more fuel I could achieve 600 degrees. I will be trying that out soon. I also provided David Gonzales some specs on fitting the cooker for a 19" griddle found on Amazon. He quickly agreed to make the mods in the form of drop in inserts that accommodate the griddle and level it out. This guy is all about versatility and quality. Made in the USA!

So here's the deal... As much as I love my other two cookers and I really do. The Yoder YS640 is my #1 due to its ease of use. That said... The Scottsdale is now my go to Pizza cooker hands down.

Great looking pizza Rob!! Have you though about putting fire bricks for a pizza stone in there and cooking on that? that will crisp up the bottom of your crust a bit more! then you will have a true wood oven pizza. just a thought!

I would eat that all day! Nothing like a deluxe pizza!

Becky, this is a great idea. I was thinking last night during cooking that I should have put one of the dogs in my 15" skillet and done a deep dish pizza. That would have been cool. Love me some cast iron!

looks great!! I agree with cooking on a pizza stone, stone has got to be pre-heated and put Corn meal on the bottom of your crust, it keeps some air movement for even cooking / crispness!! :) Either way, Pizza is my "vice"... slide a slice this way Rob, that is Some awesome looking tzaw right there!!
