YS640 Thermometer Probe Mods (silicone inserts)

So I got tired of running the probe leads through the chimney on my YS640, so I ordered some high temp silicone grommets that I will use for probe ports on the chimney side of the smoker.

Here is a picture of the grommets. I will drill a couple of 5/16" holes and put these grommets inside that I can run the leads through. Not a bad mod for about .33 each.

I'll submit pics of them installed once I make the mods to the YS640.

Really..i am surprised that smokers (or none I have seen) do not come with at least a plugged hole for thermo probes. I'm gonna have to pull out the uni-bit and pop a couple in the Lang. Where you source those grommets from?

I originally tried the grommets that you can get from Maverick, but their panel thickness was too thin for the walls of my YS640.

So I found out the grommet panel thickness dimensions are a bit too big, so I ended up ordering 1/8" panel thickness.

They are now offering that feature as an option for $29.95 on all Yoders. I added this feature in anticipation of placing the probes through this port into the unit. I would say conservatively that you could get at least 4 wires if not more through he port. Some folks have drilled their own holes and fitted the hole with wire couplers from he electrical department of your neighborhood home store.
