  • Smoke Vault question

A friend is setting up their new Propane Smoke Vault and I recommnended they use a digital temp probe for the chamber and the meat as well. I haven't seen it yet so I don't know if drilling a hole for the probe will work. Or, does the door lend itself to running the cable through the door seal with the door shut? if they go out the vent at the top there would be more heat exsposure to the cable, i think? Any experience or recommendations appriciated.

Kinda hard to say without seeing it. There are pluses and minuses to each depending on how it functions. That said, I would think a hole in the side......

I probably will need to go look at it. Then I can tell them the best way to get some probes in place.

The one I looked at is very similar to my GOSM, but the door is inset. Running the cable through the door might not work. I know mnbill has one. PM him.

I drilled a 3/8" hole in the side of mine below the handle and between two shelves. Installed a grommet and been using it like that for several years.

I drilled a hole threw the side for one probe and ran one or two through the top vent depending on what I was smoking both worked great.

Sad to say though me Vault didnt make the cut with the move and I retired her to the big smoke pit in the sky.Between the Wsm and the out house she just sat and rusted away.
