  • My new Yoder Kingman Comp

This arrived Friday at 6:30 PM and was in action Saturday morning (after a 6ish hour burn in/seasoning). It ran like a champ!

I have to get one of those. Maybe more work then a pellet grill but the taste of the food is so much better. I know it's all personal preference but that's just mine. Anyone else agree with smoking with wood over pellets?

I personally think that you get very good smoke flavor with pellet smokers because they burn so efficiently and you don't get a lot of creosote taste like you can with a stick burner that doesn't have an efficient fire burning with the proper mixture of air/airflow to produce the "thin blue smoke" that we all desire. I find it much easier to oversmoke something with a stick burner than with a pellet smoker. That being said, you can produce some amazing food on stick burners and I appreciate both for what they are good at. A good pitmaster can produce good bbq on nearly any device as long as he/she manages the pit properly and understands the subtle nuances that different methods provide.
