Ok, after I took the Tatonka dusted Tri Tip off the grill and had dinner last night I had a couple of tastes. Surprising. Very mild and smooth. Peppery nose. Slight sweetness with a vanilla top note. Almost no smokey-ness at all. Just a slight smoke hint on the after taste. This is a very refined sipper.

I expected big mesquite smoke. Initially I was a little disappointed because my favorite scotchs are the really big ones. Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg Ugadal... the ones with very strong smoke and peat. While this was nothing like that at all, it is very mild and pleasant. I would recommend it.

Cool review, I will have to look for it.

When I toured the Jack Daniels distilery, I learned that they make their own "lump charcoal" for filtering. They use a certain sugar maple that is common in that part of Tenn.
