  • Smoked cheese in the mail?

My daughter in Lake Charles La. has been begging me to send smoked cheese her way...The cheese is smoked and vac packed in the fridge...Has been for weeks...I been holding out for cooler weather...But she has upped the pressure...

How do y'all think it will hold up in the mail?

    no problem at all.

Hell worse case scenario she just has to shave a little mold off the outside. but if smoked and vacced - I doubt there'll be any mold growth.

And that's what I was thinking but just wondered if others thought it would be a bad plan...

You should be fine... though I would recommend shipping overnight or second day air to avoid potential higher truck temps that could stem from ground shipping. That being said, as the weather cools that would not be as much of a concern.

Maybe throw a small chunk of dry ice in there for insurance.

They make these little ice packs that lasts a couple days, you might look into one of them, but I think you'll be fine even without.

I ordered some hi temp cheese from Butcher and Packer a while back that was wrapped in some sort of aluminum coated freezer? Blanket kinda thingy.... Might try finding one?

Or, just send your kid moldy cheese....

I ship cheese from the west coast to the east coast quit a bit. I use the mail.
and have had no problem at all with doing so.
