  • Elmer T Lee Single Barrel

After seeing the posts on here and the reviews about how good it is, I decided to give it a shot (pun intended ) so I stopped in a few of the local hooch dealers and searched. No-Go.

I pinged the Buffalo Trace Distillery about who carries it in my area. Nobody. They did give me info about how the local guys can order it from the distributors though. They also said they only release it 3-4 times throughout the year and they will be releasing more in the April-May timeframe. Heads up there should be a fresh supply shortly.

I don't know if it's convenient, but they carry it at Total Wine in Albuquerque, of course they're out of stock in both stores.

It has proven difficult to find, and once I find a stash, when I check the next time I'm visiting the same store, the numbers have changed dramatically. Riman liquors had seven bottles when I bought Rich's gift. A couple weeks later there were only a couple bottles left...Me and a buddy both grabbed one. Riman has a LARGE wall of bourbons, so for that to be singled out and inventory turned in that short of period was noteable.

My father in law was here today for an early easter dinner...he is in his mid 80's and I insist on having good liquor for when he comes over (for god sakes he's earned it). He is a Tennessee guy, so he is a connoisseur of whiskey and bourbon. He loved my bottle of ETL Single barrel. He's gonna get one of his very own for the next special occasion.

Last I heard, they were still debating if/how they would continue with this line since Elmer passed and can't hand pick the barrels anymore. One story was they would match a sample from each barrel using some kind of analyzer. If it fell in "acceptable" parameters they would bottle. Have to wait and see what happens if we ever see anymore ETL. Between this and no EC18yo, Blantons might have to do... April/May timeframe, wonder if this is Elmer handpicked or if they decided on another way?

I got an e-mail back today from Buffalo Trace Distillery saying the latest distribution has gone out but it varies from state to state when the stores actually receive it. So, if you are looking to get some or restock your supply, it's time to keep an eye out.

Elmer is good but Woodford Reserve makes a good juice. Not a big scotch fan but I did pick up a nice 15 year old Balvenie yesterday. Not a bad Whisky I must say.
