  • Some Shrimp-n-Grits

Just got back from a week of visiting friends in Texas. One of my bestest friends made shrimp and grits while I was there. They were so tasty I had to make it when I got home.
    This is the recipe http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Old-Cha...e7=Home%20Page

Brought home some nice gulf shrimp... I shelled, deveined and butterflied them. Seasoned with salt, cayenne and fresh lemon juice.

Sorry the photos aren't the best. I was in a hurry. :)

    fried the bacon..

    fried andouille sausage too.

cooked the peppers, onions and garlic in bacon drippings...

simmered the grits then added cheese...

since I was in such a hurry, I used the little table top gas grill...flattened the shrimp for quick cooking.

topped the shrimp with a foiled pan to keep them from curling..

they didn't take long at all!

sprinkled the shrimp with some Cajun seasoning...

Combined the veggies, andouille, chicken stock, roux, crisp bacon and shrimp.

The shrimp and smoked sausage in "gravy"...

    The shrimp-n-andouille on cheesy grits...

Really liked the recipe, will make it again for sure.

    Thanks for looking!

        Thank you Marty and Pete!
I followed the recipe fairly close for the first cook but might make a few changes to suit my taste next time.

Thank you Phil! Bet your grits are awesome!! Bring your recipe with you when I adopt you.
My momma was from the south, we ate grits almost every day. I'm surprised I still love them. lol

Thanks Brian, I'd definitely share with ya. That's what I'm having for supper tonight and there's still enough for the both of us.

Grits are not something you find on many menu's up this way. The fact that these are "cheesy" certainly peaks my interest.
I love how you cooked these shrimp too. Another cool trick you taught me.
                      Thank you.

Beautiful presentation Jeanie and a fantastic bowl of goodness right there.

Cheesy grits are pretty tasty and you can add your favorite cheese....smoked cheese is pretty good in grits. Hope you give it a try sometime.
I think next time I'll use smaller shrimp. I had to cut these up so I could get a bite of shrimp with each spoonful. :)
                        Thanks again!
